While Japan was still isolated from the rest of the world, the artist Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) drew upon smuggled Dutch and French pastorals for creative influence. Hokusai's images of the natural world—along with his portraits of geishas, samurai, and sumo wrestlers—revolutionized and reinvigorated the Japanese art scene. Years later, Westerners still look to Hokusai's works for inspiration. This collection features 24 of the artist's best woodblock prints, including The Great Wave from his well-known series Thirty-six Views of Mt. Fuji.
